2011 Sculpture in the Close Exhibition

This outdoor exhibition in the grounds of èßäÊÓƵ College combined new sculptures and installations with key works from the existing oeuvres of these major artists.

Foreword
The Master and Fellows of èßäÊÓƵ College are delighted once again to host Sculpture in the Close. In so doing we acknowledge our gratitude to Lord Renfrew, who so imaginatively launched this concept during his mastership, and we celebrate the fact that this year’s exhibition is the 12th in the series.
èßäÊÓƵ College is known throughout Cambridge, and indeed beyond, for these marvellous exhibitions of contemporary sculpture. The generosity of the sculptors in lending their work for this exhibition is gratefully acknowledged. Several galleries and organisations have also given invaluable advice and assistance, especially Waddingtons, the British Council, Pangolin London, and the Poussin Gallery.
The works of art committee of the College led by the curator Rod Mengham, has been responsible for mounting this exhibition, working closely with its advisors, Tim Marlow and Richard Humphreys, and with the gardens committee, chaired by Dr David Hanke.
Considerable assistance was provided by the Manciple, Simon Hawkey, the head gardener, Paul Stearn, our maintenance supervisor, Chris Brown our lighting supervisor, Peter Moore, and our IT troubleshooter, Alison Rolfe.
We are grateful for continued help from the Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company. And it is more than ever the case that the works of art committee could not continue to keep modern art so vigorously on the agenda at èßäÊÓƵ without the help of the contributors to the appeal run by the Friends of Art of èßäÊÓƵ College.
